Troubleshooting the field app

“Waiting to sync”

Waiting to sync. Your time is saved on this phone. means a clock-in, clock-out or location answer hasn’t reached your company yet, usually because there’s no signal. You don’t need to do anything: keep the app, and it goes when the signal returns. It’s kept even if you close the app. When it’s sent, the Me tab says Sent to your company.

Working with no signal

You can still clock in and out, add notes and photos, and send chat messages:

Things that ask the server straight away, such as submitting your time card, need a signal.

“We couldn’t reach the server”

We couldn’t reach the server. Try again in a minute. means the app asked GumbyOps‘s server for something and got no answer. Wait a minute and try again. If you see No connection. Check your signal, then try again., your phone is offline. If it keeps happening with good signal, tell your office.

Updates and restarting

When a new version is ready, a bar above the tabs says New version available. Tap Restart to switch to it now, or keep working: it also loads the next time you fully close and reopen the app. It never restarts by itself, and it waits while you’re clocking in.

To restart the app yourself, fully close it (swipe it away in the app switcher) and open it again from its icon. You don’t need to reinstall it. The version you’re running is at the bottom of the Me tab.

The “Add to Home Screen” screen keeps coming back

You’re opening the app in the browser, from a link or a bookmark. Open it from its Home Screen icon instead. If you haven’t added it yet, see Install GumbyOps as an app. Skip for now hides the screen until the next visit.

Sign-in problems

Location problems

If Today says Location is blocked on this phone or We couldn’t find your location, your time still counts. Follow the steps on that card, then clock in or out again. See Clock in and out.
